Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.09%

Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Real EstateBanking and Textile sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.09%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735), which rose 3.26% or 380.00 points to trade at 12,045.00 at the close. Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9501) added 2.70% or 14.20 points to end at 541.00 and Fujitsu Ltd. (TYO:6702) was up 2.55% or 86.00 points to 3,455.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TYO:4911), which fell 3.31% or 90.00 points to trade at 2,627.00 in late trade. SUMCO Corp. (TYO:3436) declined 3.16% or 36.50 points to end at 1,118.50 and TOTO Ltd. (TYO:5332) down 2.68% or 105.00 points to 3,819.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 1770 to 1757 and 305 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.65% to 25.83.

Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.25% or 0.17 to $66.83 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.41% or 0.28 to hit $68.52 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.28% or 9.45 to trade at $3,352.35 a troy ounce.
