Hungary’s industrial output decreased by 2.6% year-on-year in May according to preliminary unadjusted data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on Friday.
The decline was steeper than analysts’ forecast of a 1.5% drop.
After adjusting for working days, output also fell by 2.6% compared to the same month last year.
On a month-to-month basis, industrial production contracted by 1.3% in May.
KSH reported mixed performance across manufacturing subsectors.
The manufacture of transport equipment and computer, electronic and optical products showed growth.
However, this positive performance was offset by declines in the manufacture of electrical equipment and food products, beverages and tobacco products.
These subsectors represent the largest components of Hungary’s industrial production by weight, according to the statistics office.
