U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Wednesday regarding anticipated interest rate decisions, expressing dissatisfaction with Powell’s leadership of the central bank.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump suggested Powell was “too late” in reference to his desire for interest rate cuts. The president expressed disappointment with Powell’s performance, despite having appointed him to the position during his previous presidential term.

During the remarks, Trump also joked about the possibility of appointing himself to lead the U.S. central bank.

The comments come as markets await the Federal Reserve’s upcoming decision on interest rates.
