Wall St futures dip on possible US strike against Iran; Fed meet underway

U.S. stock futures ticked down on Tuesday evening after Wall Street closed modestly lower, as the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict looked set to escalate further amid reports the U.S. was mulling whether to join the war against Tehran.

Investors also awaited the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision due on Wednesday, with the central bank’s two-day meeting underway.

S&P 500 Futures inched 0.3% lower to 6,024.0 points, while Nasdaq 100 Futures fell 0.3%  to 21,897.25 points by 20:10 ET (00:10 GMT). Dow Jones Futures were also trading 0.3% lower at 42,446.0 points.

Wall St slips on reports of potential US entry into Israel-Iran conflict

In the regular trading session on Tuesday, the S&P 500 index fell 0.8%, while the NASDAQ Composite declined 0.9%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.7% lower.

President Donald Trump is mulling various options, including a potential U.S. strike against Iran, after meeting with top advisers in the Situation Room at the White House on Tuesday, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing unnamed administration officials.

 

A Reuters report stated that the U.S. military is deploying more fighter aircraft to the Middle East and extending the deployment of other warplanes.

In a social media post Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump demanded that Iran agree to an “unconditional surrender,” saying that “we now have complete and total control over the skies over Iran.”

Trump held a 90-minute meeting with the National Security Council on Tuesday afternoon to address the escalating conflict, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing a White House official.
